The NFL has mandated Guardian Caps since the 2022 season with expanded use that includes all practices preseason, regular season, and post season that include contact. The list of positions mandated to wear Caps include: OL, DL, LB, DB, TE, RB, FB, WR. Additionally, all NFL players are permitted to wear Guardian Caps during games if they so choose.
All Schutt and VICIS helmets worn in practice or games with a properly installed Guardian Cap remain fully certified and warrantied, provided they comply with applicable league regulations and are used at the discretion of players, parents, or coaches.
