OneTEAM Sports is thrilled to congratulate the Maple Ridge Christian School (MRCS) junior girls volleyball team on their outstanding achievement of an undefeated season, heading into the Fraser North Championships later this month.
The team has been on an incredible run, culminating in a first-place finish at the recent Greater Vancouver Independent Schools Athletic Association Junior Girls Volleyball Championship. This victory marks the first time in over a decade that MRCS has claimed the junior girls title, and the Hornets have done so in impressive fashion, dropping only one set throughout the entire tournament.
The hard work and dedication of these student-athletes are truly inspiring, with each player contributing to the team’s success. A standout moment came when team member Sophia Andrushchuk was named both the tournament's MVP and the team's MVP — a well-deserved recognition of her exceptional play and leadership.
Head coach Parker Ormiston expressed how proud he is of the team's accomplishments, noting that the success is a result of a combination of hard work, dedication, and the strong sense of community that has developed within the team. He highlighted how the close-knit culture at MRCS has been a cornerstone in helping the players thrive and achieve a perfect record.
Looking ahead, the team is preparing for the Fraser North Championships, where they’ll face even tougher competition. While the junior competition combines larger public schools, often ranked in higher divisions, the MRCS Hornets are ready to take on the challenge. Coach Ormiston is confident that the team’s growth and their understanding of both the mental and physical aspects of the game will continue to drive their success as they enter this next phase of the tournament.
The Fraser North Championships are set to take place from November 13 to 15 at Thomas Haney Secondary and Garibaldi Secondary, and we’re excited to see how this talented team performs.
